Kwinten runs a well organized outfit- with exceptional gear. Wetsuits are made there... The double suit was essential for our early January guided snorkel .
Our guide Simon was friendly, incredibly knowledgable and passionate about the reserve. He is multilingual- easily shifting from English & German and his Maori heritage shines through as he shares the treasures the reserve offers . A wonderful experience - we felt safe as Simon noticed every detail that shifted with the currents.
Had a really nice time at goat island because of the snorkeling! They are so friendly and give good instructions. And way cheaper than the hire stores down the beach. I'm just happy !

Jan and his partner run an excellent snorkeling company! Jan is awesome and attentive. He was my guide for snorkelling. He is a marine biologist so he is incredibly knowledgeable about how the weather affects the sea conditions and marine life, the marine reserve history, and the marine life we can look out for. He pointed out many different marine life while snorkeling: different types of fishes, squid eggs, and crawfish.
In general, I'm impressed by the company. Jan took time to make sure my wetsuit fit properly, that I was familiar with all gear, safety, and their wetsuit and gear sanitation system.
I highly recommend going to the Octopus Hideaway whether you are looking for well maintained gear or a guide for novice snorkelers.
